'Perfect Storm' Leads To Record Number Of EDTX Patent Suits

Law360, New York (February 9, 2016, 5:20 PM EST) -- Long a patent hot spot, the Eastern District of Texas exploded in popularity last year as the number of patent suits filed there shot up 77 percent over 2014, an increase attorneys attribute to several factors, particularly the low rate at which judges in the district invalidate patents under Alice.

There were 2,523 new patent complaints filed in the Eastern District of Texas in 2015, compared to 1,427 the year before, according to statistics compiled by Law360.
