FTC OKs $14B Merger Between Industrial Gas Cos.

Law360, New York (July 18, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The U.S. Federal Trade Commission has given Linde AG the green light to acquire the BOC Group PLC for about $14.4 billion, a merger the FTC initially feared would result in a dearth of competition and higher prices in the medical and industrial gas markets.

The FTC’s approval was contingent on the divestiture of eight air separation units in Ohio, Wisconsin, Georgia, South Carolina and Connecticut, and three purchase agreements for liquid helium in the U.S., Russia and Poland. The divested assets account for approximately €180...
