Bayer, Georgia Pacific Try To Duck RI Asbestos Suit

By Jimmy Hoover (February 12, 2016, 7:30 PM EST) -- Bayer, Georgia Pacific and ten other companies urged a Rhode Island federal court Friday to excuse them from a laborer's lawsuit claiming the companies were responsible for exposing him to asbestos, saying the laborer could not connect their products to his injuries.

The companies — which also include a Pennsylvania boiler maker, a North Carolina pump manufacturer and an Oklahoma caulking company — each argued to the court in separate summary judgment motions that a lengthy discovery phase in Edward Newcomb and his wife's suit showed that the companies were not responsible for the worker's alleged asbestos exposure.
