Fed. Circuit Affirms University's Grip On Allergy Patent

Law360 (July 19, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- An appeals court has affirmed a decision by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office that thwarted an attempt by the University of California to lay claim to a patent held by the University of Iowa related to the suppression of allergic reactions.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit’s opinion lists the Regents of the University of California as the appellant and the University of Iowa Research Foundation and Massachusetts-based Coley Pharmaceuticals Inc.—along with the United States of America—as the appellees.
