Safeclick Sues Visa Over Online Transaction Security

Law360, New York (January 13, 2004, 12:00 AM EST) -- Safeclick has sued Visa International in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, claiming that the service organization infringed its patents for protecting the security of online transactions.

The lawsuit targets Visa’s “Verified by Visa” service, which enables consumer to add an online password to their existing Visa card in order to increase the security of online transactions.

Visa’s opt-in payer-authentication system, launched in 2001, is based on the 3-D Secure Global Interoperability standard.
