Calif. Agency Sues Cox, Utility For 2007 Fires

Law360, New York (November 10, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection has reportedly sued Cox Communications and San Diego Gas & Electric for violating state laws by failing to maintain power lines that allegedly sparked three fires that ravaged San Diego County in October 2007.

In two lawsuits filed Friday in the San Diego County Superior Court, Cal Fire accuses the companies of negligence in maintaining power lines and seeks to recover at least $13 million in costs related to fighting the wildfires that killed two people, destroyed more...
