Public Storage, Customers Seal $5M Settlement In Fee Suit
By Nathan Hale (February 29, 2016, 6:35 PM EST) -- A Florida federal judge approved a $5 million settlement Monday in a class action claiming Public Storage overcharged customers for self-storage insurance, and made an upward adjustment in a fee award to class counsel for "excellent" work achieving a recovery she deemed relatively small but hardly certain.
U.S. District Judge Ursula Ungaro found the Sept. 5 settlement agreement, reached days before trial to cover the remaining claim brought by a Florida subclass under the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act, was fair and reasonable, denying an objection that said it was too small.
