States Expected To Lead Wave Of Water Initiatives

Law360 (November 12, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- If water use continues at its current rate, experts say, water will soon become America's next oil — a scarce and valuable resource that can't be renewed. Although President-elect Barack Obama is expected to take the lead in addressing greenhouse gas emissions and the need for renewable energy sources, when it comes to water supplies, it is state and local governments that will likely set the agenda for protecting this fast-depleting resource.
