French Judge Finds No Plagiarism In 'Syriana' Case

Law360, New York (November 12, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- A French woman who claimed that the producers of the Oscar-winning 2005 film “Syriana” plagiarized a screenplay she wrote has reportedly lost her case in a Paris court.

Judge Elisabeth Belfort ruled Stephanie Vergniault had no case because there was no similarity between her screenplay and the film, according Agence France-Presse.

“The majority of elements that Ms. Vergniault considered shared were taken from known facts,” Judge Belfort wrote. “A comparison of the works doesn't show that scenes and dialogues cited by the plaintiff were similar ......
