Houston Fails To Extinguish Firefighters' Suit

Law360, New York (November 13, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- A Texas district court has partially rejected the city of Houston's attempt to squelch a suit brought by a group of black firefighters who claim the department failed to promote them because of their race.

On Wednesday, U.S. District Judge Lee Rosenthal sided in part with the plaintiffs, led by Dwight Bazile, by refusing to dismiss several claims in the race discrimination suit over the promotional

examinations used to determine who should assume the ranks of Junior Captain and Senior Captain.
