Sony BMG Hit With Broadened Complaint

Law360 (July 24, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Music industry giant Sony BMG has been hit with an amended complaint in a suit that challenges how the music industry assesses royalties for musicians who signed contracts before the dawn of digital downloads.

The new complaint broadens the original allegations against Sony. Initially, the lawsuit’s thrust was that Sony underpaid artists by treating digital downloads like physical sales when, in fact, the artists should receive a 50% licensing fee.
