No Evidentiary Hearings Yet On Telecom Mergers

Law360 (July 25, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Although the review of two major telecom mergers is far from over, the judge presiding over the cases said Tuesday he would not yet require evidentiary hearings on the government’s approval of the deals.

In reviewing the government’s approval of the mergers between Verizon Communications Inc. and MCI Inc., and AT&T Corp. and SBC Corp, Judge Emmet Sullivan has requested more documents, but has stopped short of demanding full evidentiary hearings.
