Senators Call On CMS To Investigate $3B Excess Drug Costs
Law360, Chicago (March 11, 2016, 7:46 PM EST) -- U.S. presidential hopeful Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., added his signature to those of his Senate colleagues in a recent letter to the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services calling for an investigation into the supposed $3 billion a year the government and private insurances companies pay for unused cancer medicines.
Sanders, fellow independent Sen. Angus King of Maine and nine Democrats sent a letter to CMS and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration Thursday following the publication of a Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center study in the British Medical Journal at the beginning of March.
