PacifiCorp, Feds Sign $450M Dam Removal Pact

Law360, New York (November 17, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- In a move that could revitalize hundreds of miles of the Klamath River in the Pacific Northwest, the federal government, Oregon, California and energy giant PacifiCorp have signed a tentative pact to remove four hydropower dams at a cost of up to $450 million by the year 2020.

The agreement in principle, signed Thursday, requires the federal government to undertake a feasibility study to weigh the risks and benefits of dam removal before designating an independent contractor to dispose of the dams.
