Preparing For An Inevitable Ransomware Attack

Law360, New York (March 21, 2016, 11:02 AM EDT) -- The recent malware attack on Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center is an example of the latest trend in security concerns, called “ransomware.” Ransomware is malicious software that prevents or limits users from accessing their computer systems and then forces its victims to pay a ransom in order to get back access. Ransomware encrypts a computer’s files using a private key, a very long password that only the attacker possesses. In theory, the attacker provides the key once the ransom is paid.
