PETA Appeals 'Monkey Selfie' Defeat To 9th Circ.

Law360, New York (March 21, 2016, 6:40 PM EDT) -- People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals on Sunday said that it will appeal to the Ninth Circuit after a federal judge dismissed the group’s lawsuit claiming that an ape could sue for copyright infringement over a famed "monkey selfie."

PETA lodged a notice of opposition to U.S. District Judge William H. Orrick’s January ruling that nonhuman animals are not what Congress had in mind when it wrote that "authors" have standing to sue under the Copyright Act.
