High Court Begs Off In Conn., Islander Pipeline Spat

Law360 (December 1, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday denied a petition from Islander East Pipeline Co., putting an end to years of appeals of a decision by the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection to deny the company a water-quality permit for its proposed natural gas pipeline under Long Island Sound.

The petition had implored the court to define jurisdictional line between the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s authority to regulate interstate natural gas pipelines and the power of state agencies to intervene.
