Pa. House Committee OKs Bill Legalizing Uber, Lyft

Law360, Philadelphia (May 4, 2016, 1:32 PM EDT) -- A bill that would legalize ride-hailing services such as those offered through Uber Technologies Inc. and Lyft Inc. inched closer to approval on Wednesday as a Pennsylvania legislative committee gave its blessing to the measure.

Senate Bill 984, which passed the House Consumer Affairs committee by 23-2 vote, would establish a new regulatory framework for mobile ride-hailing services, which currently operate under experimental licenses granted by the state Public Utility Commission.

The measure, which previously passed the Senate by a 48-to-2 margin in November, now heads to the full House for consideration.
