Qantas, BA Fined $25M Over Fuel Surcharge Cartel

Law360, New York (December 11, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- Accepting a fine recommended by the country's competition watchdog, an Australian court has ordered Qantas Airways Ltd. and British Airways PLC to pay a total of $25 million in penalties for their alleged roles in a global fuel surcharge cartel.

The orders were announced Thursday by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, which had proposed the penalty after settling civil suits with the airlines in late October.
