St. Jude Hit With Patent Suit Over Pacemaker

Law360, New York (December 15, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- A prominent cardiologist has given a jolt to St. Jude Medical Inc., accusing the medical device maker of stealing information related to his invention and making a pacemaker that infringes his patented technology.

The complaint, lodged Friday in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, claims senior employees of Pacesetter Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of St. Jude Medical, usurped the pacemaker technology after ostensibly negotiating with the inventor, Dr. Raul Chirife, to license the patent, which covers pacemakers using hemodynamic sensors....
