Epic Says Tata Can Cut, Not Vacate, $940M Award In IP Suit

By Melissa Daniels (June 6, 2016, 8:21 PM EDT) -- Health care software provider Epic Systems Corp. asked a Wisconsin federal judge Friday to reject a motion from units of Indian superconglomerate Tata Group to vacate a $940 million verdict in a trade secrets case, but pointed out that state law could reduce the amount by $220 million.

Epic argued in a 94-page opposition to Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. and Tata America International Corp.'s motion for judgment as a matter of law that a jury was correct to find they violated Epic's software trade secrets when it awarded Epic $240 million in compensatory damages and $700 million in punitive damages....
