Obama Taps Labor Advocate To Lead DOL

Law360 (December 18, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- President-elect Barack Obama's reported pick for secretary of labor is a California congresswoman and daughter of a union shop steward.

Citing unnamed sources, Reuters News and the Associated Press reported Thursday that Rep. Hilda Solis, D-Calif., could be named to the post as soon as Friday.

Solis, who was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2000, has focused on environmental issues there. She serves on the House Energy and Commerce Committee and the Committee on Natural Resources.
