Disbarred OJ Atty Hits Bankruptcy With $5.1M In Tax Debt

Law360, New York (June 27, 2016, 7:28 PM EDT) -- F. Lee Bailey, a former lawyer who helped get O.J. Simpson acquitted of murder and who was later disbarred on allegations of mishandling client funds, filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy on Friday to discharge a $5.1 million tax judgment.

Bailey, who runs a business consultancy called Bailey and Elliott Consulting in Yarmouth, Maine, listed personal assets of $408,176 and $5.6 million in debt, with nearly $5.2 million of that owed to the Internal Revenue Service. Bailey told Law360 that the bankruptcy court has the ability to grant relief related to the tax judgment that dates back to the mid-1990s.
