Lite-On's Competition Claim Against Toshiba Stands

Law360, New York (January 8, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- A federal judge has ruled that Taiwanese computer peripheral maker Lite-On IT Corp. can go ahead with an unfair competition claim against rival Toshiba Corp. in the DVD technology market, although the two companies previously settled a lawsuit involving some of the same issues.

Judge Stephen G. Larson of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California ruled Wednesday that Lite-On's claim added a “new wrinkle” to a counterclaim it proposed to file against Toshiba in an earlier patent suit, which the companies settled,...
