Sikh Worker Sues IRS For Religious Bias Over Knife

Law360, New York (January 9, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- A Sikh woman from Texas has sued the U.S. government, alleging that her former employer, the U.S. Internal Revenue Service, discriminated against her when it prohibited her from carrying a small knife as part of her religious observances and eventually fired her.

According to the lawsuit, filed Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas, the IRS refused to provide reasonable accommodation for Kawaljeet K. Tagore, although doing so would not have placed an undue hardship on the agency.
