Document Shredding Voided Rambus Patents: Judge

Law360 (January 9, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- In a significant blow to Rambus Inc., a federal judge has ruled that the company cannot enforce 12 of its semiconductor patents in a suit against Micron Technology Inc. because Rambus destroyed documents about them.

Judge Sue Robinson of the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware ruled Friday that the destruction of documents in companywide “shred days” during the late 1990s was “obstructive at best, misleading at worst,” since the company should have been able to predict that litigation over the technology was inevitable....
