Law360, New York (August 5, 2016, 5:22 PM EDT) -- Almost two years have passed since final rules[1] for asset-backed securities (ABS) risk retention were released in October 2014.[2] In most respects, the final rules are substantially similar to the reproposed rules published in September 2013,[3] which themselves were the product of years of proposals and comments on what the regulations implementing the Dodd-Frank risk retention statute[4] should provide. In that time, sponsors have for the most part made significant progress in formulating and implementing their plans for dealing with the significant economic burden that risk retention will impose when the rules become effective on December 24, 2016....
