United Farm Workers Aims To Uproot H-2A Changes

Law360, New York (January 13, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- The United Farm Workers union has asked a federal judge to stop the U.S. Department of Labor from implementing changes to the H-2A visa program, saying the changes would weaken protections for farmworkers available under the current statute.

In the complaint, filed Monday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, the United Farm Workers union; Pineros y Campesinos Unidos del Noroeste, an Oregon union representing farm, nursery and reforestation workers; and several individual plaintiffs said that the proposed changes weaken the DOL's role...
