Insurer Must Defend Post-Policy Claim: Judge

Law360, New York (January 13, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- A federal judge has ruled that Great American Insurance Co. has a duty to defend a Texas law firm in a legal malpractice suit that was reported to the insurer after the “claims made” policy had expired because the suit was related to another claim that had been reported during the term of the policy.

The insurance company must provide coverage for the legal malpractice suit lodged against Dallas-based GodwinRonquillo PC by a former client accusing the trial and appellate firm of mishandling a patent case...
