Black Abalone Added To Endangered Species List

Law360, New York (January 14, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- The black abalone, an edible mollusk on the Pacific Coast, was added to the list of endangered species on Wednesday, two years after an advocacy group lodged a petition highlighting the species' dramatic decline in numbers.

A status review of the black abalone's demographics found that the species risks becoming extinct within 30 years, the U.S. National Marine Fisheries Service said in a Federal Register notice.
