Judge Upholds $43M Verdict For Philips In Lamp Case

Law360 (January 14, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- A federal judge has affirmed a jury's $43 million verdict finding that Iwasaki Electric Co. Ltd. infringed a patent held by U.S. Philips Corp. for mercury vapor discharge lamps used in projectors and rear-screen televisions.

U.S. District Judge Kevin Castel of the Southern District of New York ruled Tuesday on a slew of post-trial motions, but did not disturb the verdict reached last June, which found that Iwasaki had infringed one claim of a single patent and had actively induced infringement.
