TVA Ordered To Curb Pollution At 4 Coal Plants

Law360, New York (January 14, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- The embattled Tennessee Valley Authority must control pollution at four of its coal-fired plants, a federal judge has ruled, in a case brought by North Carolina alleging TVA pollutants are drifting into the state, sickening residents and ruining scenic vistas.

On Tuesday, in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of North Carolina, Judge Lacy Thornburg granted partial injunctive relief to North Carolina in its common-law nuisance action against TVA. The judge ordered TVA to install pollution controls at four of the 11 TVA plants...
