Acacia Slaps Sprint, Verizon With Modem Patent Suit

Law360 (January 14, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- A clutch of major cell phone companies — including Sprint Nextel Corp., Verizon Wireless Inc. and T-Mobile USA Inc. — have been hit with a lawsuit alleging their wireless modem cards infringe a patent held by DNT LLC, a subsidiary of Acacia Research Corp.

The complaint, lodged Friday in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, claims the six wireless technology companies make and sell modem cards for use with cellular networks that incorporate dialing technology protected by DNT’s patent.
