Ciena, Nortel End Communications Patent Dispute

Law360 (August 8, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Optical equipment maker Ciena Corp. and Canadian rival Nortel Networks Inc. have put to bed a pair of patent infringement lawsuits after wrangling for more than a year over communications networking technology.

On Monday, Judge Leonard Davis dismissed without prejudice the back-and-forth attacks in both suits filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas.

Linthicum, Md.-based Ciena and Toronto-based Nortel said they have entered into a long-term patent cross-license agreement as part of the deal. Ciena and Nortel declined to comment further...
