Chinese Court Sentences 12 In Tainted Milk Scandal

Law360, New York (January 22, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- A Chinese court has handed down 12 sentences in the contaminated milk fiasco that sickened nearly 300,000 children and caused six deaths, slapping two men with a death sentence and sending the highest-ranking official charged in the scandal to jail for life.

The Intermediate People's Court in Shijiazhuang spared Tian Wenhua's life and gave her the lesser life sentence, even after she pled guilty to charges of producing and selling fake or substandard products, the Associated Press reported on Thursday.
