Oil Co. Hit With Fine, Probation Over La. Brine Spill

Law360, New York (January 22, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- Oil production company Texas Petroleum Investment Co. has been ordered to pay $525,000, most of which will go to the federal government and two state funds, for spilling brine into a federal wildlife refuge in southeastern Louisiana.

TPIC must contribute $425,000 to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, $25,000 each to the Louisiana State Police Right to Know Fund and the Southern Environmental Enforcement Network Enforcement Training Fund, and $50,000 in penalties, Magistrate Judge Daniel Knowles III of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District...
