Obama Appoints Varney To Lead Antitrust Division

Law360, New York (January 23, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- Ending months of speculation in the antitrust community, President Barack Obama has picked Hogan & Hartson LLP partner Christine Varney to head the U.S. Department of Justice's Antitrust Division.

Antitrust experts have long anticipated that U.S. antitrust policy would likely undergo striking changes under an Obama administration, pointing to comments Obama made on the campaign trail vowing, among other things, to strengthen enforcement of antitrust laws.
