India Plans Overhaul Of Patent Application System

Law360 (January 23, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- India reportedly is planning a major upgrade of its patent system as the country works to gain a hold on a sevenfold explosion in the number of patent applications in less than a decade.

The upgrade is geared toward getting technology up to speed so the country of more than 1 billion people can effectively operate as an International Searching Authority, an official in New Delhi told an Indian news organization Friday.
