Welch Sells Fake Pomegranate Juice: POM Suit

Law360, New York (January 27, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- The makers of POM Wonderful pomegranate juice have accused juice giant Welch Foods Inc. of marketing a white-grape and pomegranate juice that contains little to no pomegranate, capitalizing on a POM advertising campaign.

In a lawsuit filed Friday in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, POM Wonderful LLC charges that Welch’s white-grape and pomegranate juice product is actually a blend of apple-cranberry juice designed to profit from POM’s multimillion-dollar advertising campaign extolling the antioxidant virtues of pomegranate juice.
