Ex-Nortel Workers Make Plea For Unpaid Severance

Law360, New York (January 28, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- Former employees of bankrupt Nortel Networks Corp. have called on the troubled telecommunications company to restore promised severances it suspended after filing for Chapter 11 protection earlier this month.

In a memo sent to Nortel Chief Executive Mike Zafirovski and other officers, the workers urged the Canadian company to show good faith and reverse its decision to deny the payouts.

Paula Klein, who chairs the steering committee for the recently laid-off Nortel employees, told Zafirovski that the decision to withhold severances would jeopardize the company's plans...
