Spanish Agency To Probe WhatsApp, Facebook Data-Sharing

Law360, New York (October 7, 2016, 6:33 PM EDT) -- The Spanish Data Protection Agency has added its voice to the choir of privacy regulators concerned about WhatsApp's plan to begin sharing user data with parent company Facebook, saying Wednesday that it will look into the mobile messenger's new practice.

AEPD said in an announcement on its website that it will examine whether personal-data communications between WhatsApp and Facebook — including users' phone numbers and other data that will be used to inform targeted ads — falls in line with Spanish data protection laws.
