Attorneys Want Lay’s Slate Wiped Clean

Law360, New York (August 14, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Attorneys for Ken Lay have asked a Texas judge to dismiss the former Enron chief’s conviction in an effort to erase the recently deceased CEO’s criminal record.

Lay’s attorneys filed a motion Friday to substitute Lay’s estate as the defendant in the case. If the judge allows the swap, Samuel Buffone of Ropes & Gray, the attorney who Lay hired to represent him on appeal, will appear in court on behalf of the estate and move to vacate Lay’s convictions and dismiss the case, according to...
