French Appeals Court Won't Allow IPhone-Orange Deal

Law360 (February 4, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- Upholding a finding by French competition regulators, a Paris appellate court said Wednesday that France Telecom's Orange SA cannot exclusively sell Apple Inc.'s iPhone because of competition concerns.

In December, the French Competition Council provisionally halted the deal between Apple and Orange, saying their five-year contract seemed excessive and risked damaging competition for the mobile market and consumers. The Paris Appeal Court affirmed that decision Wednesday.
