House Weighs Food Safety Bills As Fears Grow

Law360, New York (February 4, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- Amid an uproar over salmonella-tainted peanuts and a regulation-friendly political climate, a U.S. congresswoman from Colorado on Tuesday introduced two bills designed to beef up food safety inspections and make food easier to trace to its origins.

"We need to give the government the resources to ensure the safety of our food supply,” Rep. Diana DeGette, a seven-term Democrat, said on introducing the bills in the U.S. House of Representatives.
