TiVo, Samsung Settle DVR Patent Suit With Licensing Terms

Law360, Los Angeles (November 3, 2016, 9:47 PM EDT) -- TiVo Inc. will end its patent infringement suit against Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. in exchange for a long-term licensing agreement, the company announced Thursday, while taking steps to close its Texas federal court action over digital recording patents.

TiVo last year sued Samsung over alleged infringement of four patents related to digital recording technology, accusing the South Korea-based electronics maker of using its inventions without license or authority.

But in an announcement paired with its third quarter results, TiVo said the parties have reached a "broad" intellectual property license that will provide certain rights under TiVo's patent portfolios for Samsung's mobile,...
