Monsanto To Face Antitrust Concerns Over Acquisition

Law360, New York (August 15, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Agricultural biotech company Monsanto Co. is hoping antitrust regulators will cast an approving eye on its acquisition of Delta and Pine Land Co., after antitrust concerns thwarted an earlier merger deal and spawned years of legal wrangling between the companies.

Monsanto announced Tuesday that it is acquiring Delta and Pine Land Company for $1.5 billion in cash.

The boards of directors of both companies approved the transaction, though it is still subject to shareholder approval and antitrust clearance.
