Patent Case Dismissed Against Microsoft, HP

Law360, New York (August 15, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A federal judge has ruled that Microsoft Corp. and Hewlett Packard Corp. did not infringe a smart card company’s patent by selling handheld computers with Windows Mobile software.

The suit, first filed in February 2002 by E-Pass Technologies Inc., accused the two computer giants of violating a patent for storing information from multiple credit cards on a single card. It sought an injunction and about $210 million in damages.
