Texas Lawmaker Proposes Creating A 15th Appellate Court

Law360, Houston (December 1, 2016, 3:37 PM EST) -- A bill filed Wednesday by a Texas lawmaker would establish the state's Fifteenth Court of Appeals, to hear cases from Cameron, Hidalgo and Willacy counties, all of which are under the jurisdiction of the Thirteenth Court of Appeals.

State Rep. Phil Stephenson, R-Wharton, filed H.B. 474 Wednesday which proposes splitting the Thirteenth Court of Appeals in half — whereby a chief justice and two justices from the Thirteenth Court would become justices of the newly created Fifteenth Court of Appeals.
