Class Cert. Sought In State Farm Katrina Suit

Law360, New York (February 17, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- A Louisiana couple has asked a federal court to certify a class action against State Farm Fire & Casualty Co. over an allegedly flawed method it used to calculate insurance payouts to victims of Hurricane Katrina.

Kathleen and Gordon Schafer moved Friday to certify a class of Louisiana residents who had homeowners insurance with State Farm, and received a one-time insurance payment for damages caused by Katrina calculated using a software program made by Xactware Solutions Inc.
