Singer Sues MGM, Weinstein Over ‘Soul Men’

Law360, New York (February 19, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- Soul musician The Legendary Soul Man Sam Moore has filed a lawsuit against MGM Studios Inc., The Weinstein Co. and several other producers for trademark infringement, privacy invasion and unfair competition stemming from the upcoming film “Soul Men,” which Moore contends is a thinly veiled biopic about his musical career.

Moore, once part of the 1960s soul duo Sam & Dave, filed the lawsuit on Tuesday in the U.S. District Court, alleging that Harvey Weinstein-produced film mirrors his life too closely.
